Today we will cook simple basmati rice. Choose how to serve it, with vegetables, meet or fish. It may sound crazy but not all know how to make it, so let\'s start.


  • salt : 2 pinch
  • vegetable oil : 0.5 Tbsp
  • water : 500 ml
  • basmati rice : 200 g

Stages of cooking

  1. Take basmati rice in a bowl and begin to rinse the rice grains in running water.

  2. The rice must be rinsed till the water becomes clear, transparent and without starch.

  3. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes. Then strain the rice very well and keep aside.

  4. In a deep bottomed pan, pour water, use a wide deep pan, because the water spills out while cooking.

  5. Add vegetable oil. You can also use butter. This step is optional and you can just skip it.

  6. Add 2 pinches of salt or as per your taste. Sometimes it is not added at all.

  7. Let the water come to a boil on a medium flame.

  8. Add rice, you can gently shake the pan, so that the rice grains settle down.

  9. Cover the pan with its lid. You can check once or twice while the rice is cooking. If the grains do not look cooked and the water has got over, then add 2 or 3 tbsp of hot water and stir gently with a fork.

  10. Lower the flame and cook the rice till all the water would be absorbed and the rice grains would be cooked well. Press cooked rice grain with your thumb, it should be soft and mash easily. If no, it means the grains need to be cooked for some more time. When the rice is cooked, give it rest for 5 minutes, before you open the lid.
