Foxtail millet chakli is a South Indian snack, which is traditionally served with tea, coffee or curd rice. The dish is easy and quick to cook, but it tastes unusual. Hurry up to cook it for your loved ones!

Ingredients

  • foxtail millet: 0.5 cup
  • rice flour: 0.25 cup
  • Bengal gram: 1 Tbsp
  • chili powder: 1 Tbsp (red chili powder)
  • cumin seeds: 1 Tbsp
  • asafoetida: 1 pinch
  • ghee: 1 Tbsp
  • oil: 2 cup (for deep frying)
  • salt: 1 pinch (to taste)
  • water: 0.5 cup (hot or warm)

  1. Grind roasted gram in a mixer to get smooth powder. Sieve the powder to get rid of the lumps. Take a deep bowl then and mix foxtail millet flour, rice flour, gram flour, pottu kadalai podi/ powder, asafetida, cumin seeds, salt and ghee in it.

  2. Now, add warm water, mix the ingredients and knead soft dough. It should not be sticky.

  3. Add 0.25 teaspoons of oil, cover the dough and set it aside for a while. Take a pan and heat oil in it. Take murukku mould plate and place it in a muruku kuzhal. Fill the dough in a muruku kuzhal (one handful) and press out over the ladle.

  4. Deep-fry your chakli on medium fire until they become crispy.

  5. Make sure to fry them on both sides.

  6. Take them out of oil and drain on paper towels to get rid of extra fat.

  7. Leave at the room temperature for a couple of minutes and serve! Store the remaining chakli in the airtight container. Enjoy!
