Sometimes, we spend much time, money and effort trying to look beautiful and attractive. At the same time, we don’t even suspect that the way we look is closely associated with such an ordinary ritual as… sleep. Meanwhile, scientists have held numerous investigations to find out the way sleep affects human appearance, including skin, hair and general well-being. These investigations have proven the following fact: there is the connection between the quality and duration of sleep and appearance. Here are some of the issues you would like to know.

1. Complexion

Have you even noticed that when you don’t get enough sleep, your skin becomes dull and gets unhealthy color? This happens because the lack of sleep triggers the constriction of vessels, in the result of which skin doesn’t get enough oxygen and nutrients. Dark circles under the eyes are the best proof of this fact.

2. Production of Collagen

When we sleep, our body produces that amount of collagen our skin needs to look fresh and healthy. Collagen improves elasticity of skin and contributes to better moisturization. Lack of collagen, correspondingly, makes our skin, nails and hair look dull and unhealthy.

3. Muscle Relaxation

Proper night sleep helps facial muscles relax, which prevents wrinkles and other skin problems. When we get enough sleep, we look younger, but if we don’t manage to relax well, everyone can clearly see that. In such cases, skin becomes dull, new wrinkles appear and the existing ones become more noticeable than before.

4. Regeneration of Skin Cells

During our night sleep, our body keeps producing the so-called “growth hormone”. Children need it to grow faster, while adults benefit from better regeneration of skin cells. It is not a secret that our skin is affected by the UV light and air pollution. Production of the growth hormone helps prevent this situation, making out skin look younger and fresher.

5. Reduction of the Stress Level

Proper nigh sleep is not a whim, but a necessity. We live in a stressful world, when different factors affects out mood, wellbeing and appearance. When we fall asleep, our bodies start fighting the aftereffects of stress. The level of cortisol decreases, muscles relax and proper blood circulation contributes to better skin, hair and nails condition. That is why, it is not smart to underestimate the importance of good night sleep!
