This soup with potatoes and sausage is a variation of an original German soup. My family loves this soup, and I never have leftovers. This recipe is one my grandmother used to make when I was growing up, and I have always loved it.
Ingredients
- bulk mild Italian sausage: 1 pound
- kielbasa smoked sausage, cut lengthwise and sliced into 1/2-inch pieces: 1 pound
- potatoes: 4 cups (to taste, diced)
- water: 4 cups
- chicken broth: 2 cups
- heavy whipping cream: 1 cup
- stalk celery: 1 piece (diced, to taste)
- cubes chicken bouillon: 2 piece
- garlic: 1 Tbsp (minced)
- salt: 1 tsp
- ground black pepper: 0.5 tsp
- garlic powder: 0.5 tsp
- red pepper: 0.33333 tsp (to taste, crushed)

Heat a large pot over medium-high heat. Cook and stir Italian and kielbasa sausages in the hot pot until browned, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain grease.

Stir potatoes, water, chicken broth, heavy cream, celery, bouillon, garlic, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper into the pot. Reduce heat and let simmer until potatoes are tender, about 1 hour 30 minutes.
