Ingredients

  • olive oil: 1 Tbsp
  • fennel: 1 pound (sliced)
  • onion, halved and: 1 piece (sliced)
  • fennel seeds: 0.5 tsp
  • salt: 0.25 tsp
  • black pepper: 0.125 tsp
  • apple, cored and sliced with peel: 1 piece
  • black pepper and fennel fronds: (freshly ground)

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add fennel, onion, and fennel seeds. Season with salt and pepper.

  2. Cook, stirring occasionally, until fennel is just tender and beginning to brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Stir in apple and cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Top with additional black pepper and, if desired, fennel fronds.
