Shepherd’s pie is otherwise called “cottage pie”. The name of the dish speaks for itself. This is one of traditional English dishes, which are easy to cook and involve simple ingredients that are found in any house. The taste of the dish, though, is remarkable, so, it’s definitely worth trying!
Wash, peel and chop the carrot, onion and button mushrooms.
Sauté the onion on pre-heated oil in a deep pan.
Set the onion aside as soon as it turns light brown.
Now, sauté the carrots and button mushrooms.
Set them aside when they are ready as well.
Add around 4 tablespoons of butter into a frying pan and put the minced meat inside.
Fry the meat, stirring it from time to time. Your minced meat should become brown.
Now, add carrots, button mushrooms, flour and butter. Keep frying for several minutes more, stirring the dish well. Then turn off the fire and set the frying pan aside.
Meanwhile, boil and peel the potatoes. Make sure to add salt into water before boiling the potatoes.
Then mash the boiled potatoes.
Add milk and grated cheese. Mix the ingredients once again until the mixture becomes smooth. Season with salt and black pepper.
Add fried onions first. Mix the ingredients once again.
Take a baking dish and put the layer of minced meat with carrots and mushrooms first. Spread it well.
Now, spoon the potatoes with onions and spread this layer as well.
Bake in the pre-heated to 220 C (428 F) oven for about 30 minutes. Serve with pasta, steamed vegetables or any other garnish! Bon appétit!
