Ingredients
- lean ground beef: 0.5 pound (to taste)
- onion: 0.5 piece (minced)
- garlic powder: 1 tsp
- onion powder: 1 tsp
- salt and ground black pepper: (to taste)
- water: 2 cups
- elbow macaroni: 2 cups
- ounces reduced-fat processed cheese food (such as Velveeta®): 8 piece (cut into small pieces)
- reduced-fat sour cream: 2 Tbsp (to taste)

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir ground beef, onion, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper in the hot skillet until beef is browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios

Increase heat to high. Add water to ground beef mixture in the skillet. Cover and bring to a boil. Stir macaroni into boiling water-ground beef mixture.
