This Hungarian-style goulash is a thick beef stew that is great served over buttered noodles and garnished with sour cream.

Ingredients

  • ½ pounds boneless beef chuck roast: 2 piece (cut into 2-inch cubes)
  • salt and ground black pepper: (to taste)
  • vegetable oil: 2 Tbsp
  • onions: 2 piece (chopped)
  • olive oil: 2 tsp
  • salt: 0.5 tsp
  • Hungarian paprika: 2 Tbsp
  • caraway seeds: 2 tsp (crushed)
  • black pepper: 1 tsp (freshly ground)
  • marjoram: 1 tsp (dried)
  • ground thyme: 0.5 tsp
  • cayenne pepper: 0.5 tsp
  • chicken broth: 4 cups (divided)
  • tomato paste: 0.25 cup
  • garlic: 3 clove (crushed)
  • balsamic vinegar: 2 Tbsp
