My Granny always made this easy casserole for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.

Ingredients

  • lean ground beef: 1 pound
  • onion: 1 piece (diced)
  • tomatoes: 1 can (14.5 ounce can, diced)
  • condensed cream of mushroom soup: 1 can (10.5 ounce can)
  • instant rice: 1 cup
  • white sugar: 2 tsp
  • garlic powder: 1 Tbsp
  • thyme: 1 tsp (dried)
  • oregano: 1 tsp (dried)
  • slices American cheese: 6 piece

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

  2. Place ground beef and onions in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until beef is evenly brown. Drain any excess fat.

  3. Add tomatoes, condensed soup, rice, sugar, garlic powder, thyme, and oregano. Mix well and cook over medium heat for 10 minutes. Place in a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
