This raw mango salad is very simple and goes very well as a side-dish with dal-rice, pulao or khichdi. It is rather substantial, by the way.

Ingredients

  • salt : 1 pinch (or per taste)
  • sugar : 2 tsp
  • cumin seed : 0.5 tsp
  • kashmiri red chili : 0.5 tsp
  • onion : 50 g
  • mango : 2 piece (small or 1 medium)

  1. Rinse the mangoes and then dry them with a clean kitchen towel.

  2. Peel and chop the mangoes into cubes. The chopped raw mangoes should be about one cup.

  3. Roast cumin seeds on a medium heat till they become aromatic.

  4. Switch off the flame and transfer the roasted cumin seeds in the mortar, crush with the pestle and grind to a coarse powder.

  5. Keep all the ingredients ready for the raw mango salad.

  6. Sprinkle the kashmiri red chili powder, roasted cumin powder, sugar and salt on the chopped mangoes.

  7. Mix well with a spoon.

  8. Cover and allow the mixture to rest for 10-12 minutes.

  9. After some time the salad will leave moisture. Serve raw mango salad as a side dish with dal-rice. Enjoy!
