Mmm… This dish is so amazing - nutrient, fragrant, healthy and exquisitely tasty! The dish we are talking about is “Sliced lentils in tomato sauce”. Your family will certainly like this traditional Indian dish. I am sure you will be asked for more!
Wash the lentils, take a pot, pour 2.5 cups water in it, add lentils, bring to a boil, then add salt and cook on low heat for about 20-30 minutes.
Take another pot. Rinse the rice, put into boiling water, cover with the lid and cook over low heat for 10-12 minutes.
Peel the onion and ginger and chop them well. Peel the carrot, slice into thin strips. Chop the cilantro, add 2 tablespoons of squeezed lemon juice. Blanch the tomatoes, peel them and cut into small cubes.
Take a frying pan and heat the oil over medium heat, sauté the onion and ginger for about 3 minutes.
Add curry, garam masala, red pepper and cook for about one minute, stirring the dish.
Then add the carrot and cook for 3 more minutes, stirring it well.
Now, add tomatoes, 0.5 cup of hot water, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Stir the dish well once again, cover with a lid and stew for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Finally, add the lentils and cook for about 5 minutes. When done, sprinkle the dish with lemon juice and chopped cilantro, mix well and serve over the cooked rice. Bon appétit!
