Hot peppers and smoky mezcal tequila make this spicy mezcal margarita the perfect summer cocktail.
Ingredients
- white sugar: 1 Tbsp
- kosher salt: 1 tsp
- lime wedge: 1 piece
- jalapeno pepper, seeded and: 1 piece (chopped)
- ½ teaspoons white sugar: 1 piece
- orange juice: 0.5 cup (freshly squeezed)
- mezcal: 0.25 cup
- lime juice: 3 Tbsp (freshly squeezed)

Mix 1 tablespoon sugar with salt on a shallow, rimmed plate. Use lime wedge to wet rims of two 8-ounce glasses. Dip rims into sugar mixture.

Combine jalapeño and 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar in a cocktail shaker and muddle until sugar is dissolved and jalapeño is juiced. Add orange juice, mezcal, and lime juice to shaker, then fill with ice. Cover and shake until chilled, about 30 seconds. Strain into glasses to serve.
