Stages of cooking
-
Blend the butter and flour to get crispy base for the pie
-
Add 5-6 tbsp of cold water and continue blending for a few more seconds
-
Put the dough on the cooking surface and make a round shape of it
-
Take baking paper and roll out the dough on it. If you have done the previous steps correctly, the dough will be elastic and soft – an ideal base for your apple pie!
-
Spread the dough on the bottom of the loose-base cake tin, which should be around 24-26 cm wide. Do not forget to cover the tin with butter or oil from the inside and make the edges around 2-2.5 cm high. Leave the dough in a fridge for 1 hour.
-
Now, it is high time to cook caramel! Take a deep bowl or a pot with a think bottom. Mix sugar and water and cook the caramel on small fire. An ideal caramel is the one, which is dense and light brown. Do not forget to mix the caramel from time to time.
-
Add hot (!) cream to the caramel and continue mixing until it becomes smooth and the cream dissolves in the topping
-
Remove the sauce from fire and wait until it cools down a bit. You will notice that the taste and flavor of the caramel will be fantastic!
-
Meanwhile, peel the apples, cut them into large pieces (preferably, slices). Take the tin with the dough from the fridge and pierce it several times with a fork. Put the sliced apples into the tin and bake in the pre-heated to 200 degrees oven for 20 minutes
-
Add eggs and 1 tbsp of flour to the caramel sauce and mix until it becomes smooth. Use the mixer to get the topping. Take the pie away from the oven, reduce the temperature to 160 degrees, pour the topping on the apples and continue baking for 40 minutes until the pie becomes golden.
-
Wait until the pie cools down, remove it from the tin and serve as you like!
