This congealed salad is a dessert my family has been making for years.
Ingredients
- fruit flavored Jell-O gelatin: 1 pack (6 ounce pack)
- cream cheese: 1 pack (8 ounce pack, softened)
- ounces large curd cottage cheese: 32 piece
- fruit cocktail: 1 can (15.25 ounce can, drained)
- pineapple chunks: 1 can (20 ounce can, drained)
- mandarin orange segments: 1 can (11 ounce can, drained)
- apple - peeled, cored, and: 1 piece (diced)
- banana: 1 piece (sliced)
- maraschino cherries: 1 jar (10 ounce jar, drained)
- walnuts: 1 cup (chopped)

Prepare gelatin according to the package directions, substituting 1 cup cold water with 1 cup crushed ice. Place gelatin into the freezer until almost congealed, about 1 hour.

Beat cream cheese in a bowl until smooth; fold into gelatin. Add cottage cheese, fruit cocktail, pineapple, oranges, apple, banana, cherries, and walnuts; mix well.

Pour into a mold or dish and refrigerate until completely set, at least 1 hour.
