Fried scotch oatmeal (or is it also called in Scotland – “skirlie”) tastes exotic and looks great as well. You can cook it for breakfast, dinner or supper – it will be a perfect addition to your menu! The recipe is quite simple and can be cooked in half an hour only!

Ingredients

  • oat-flakes: 100 g
  • onion: 2 piece
  • butter: 75 g (60 g for the dish and 15 g for the sauce)
  • thyme: 0.5 tsp (dry)
  • salt: 1 pinch
  • black pepper: 1 pinch
  • meat: 300 g (minced)
  • meat broth: 1 cup

  1. Let’s start cooking the dish with the sauce. Peel and chop the onion. Fry it on butter for 2 minutes.

  2. Add minced meat into the frying pan with the onion and keep frying for 8 minutes.

  3. Add salt, pepper, meat broth and stew for 20 minutes more.

  4. While the minced meat is being cooked, peel the second onion and slice it into thin semi-circles. Fry the onion on the butter.

  5. Add oat flakes to the onion.

  6. Add black pepper and thyme.

  7. Mix everything and add salt. Continue frying for 5 minutes, but do not forget to stir the oat flakes.

  8. Take a deep plate or a bowl and place hot fried oatmeal inside.

  9. Pour the oat flakes with the sauce and decorate with basil. Enjoy the dish!
