- shortening: 0.5 cup
- white sugar: 0.5 cup
- egg: 1 piece
- light molasses: 0.5 cup
- ½ cups all-purpose flour: 1 piece
- salt: 0.75 tsp
- baking soda: 0.75 tsp
- ground ginger: 0.5 tsp
- ground cinnamon: 0.5 tsp
- water: 0.5 cup

Preheat oven to 350 degrees (175 degrees C). Grease and lightly flour one 8 inch square baking pan.

Cream shortening and sugar until light. Add the egg and molasses and beat thoroughly.
