Make a from-scratch homemade pickling spice using this old-time combination of herbs and spices.

Ingredients

  • whole mustard seeds: 2 Tbsp
  • whole allspice berries: 1 Tbsp
  • whole coriander seeds: 2 tsp
  • red pepper flakes: 1 tsp (to taste)
  • ground ginger: 1 tsp
  • bay leaves, crumbled: 2 piece
  • cinnamon sticks, broken in half: 2 piece
  • whole cloves: 6 piece

  1. Place mustard seeds, allspice berries, coriander seeds, and pepper flakes into a small glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Shake to combine. Add ginger to the jar, seal, and shake again.
