This creamy baked mac and cheese recipe is one I first made three years ago when I was in California. When I got back to Texas, I made it for my mom. This is now her favorite macaroni and cheese. She begs me to make it when I come to visit.

Ingredients

  • butter: 2 Tbsp
  • onion: 0.25 cup (finely chopped)
  • all-purpose flour: 2 Tbsp
  • milk: 2 cups
  • salt: 0.75 tsp
  • dry mustard: 0.5 tsp
  • ground black pepper: 0.25 tsp
  • elbow macaroni: 1 pack (8 ounce pack)
  • sharp Cheddar cheese: 2 cups (shredded)
  • processed American cheese: 1 pack (8 ounce pack, cut into strips)

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

  4. Meanwhile, bring a pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add macaroni and cook until al dente, 8 to 10 minutes; drain.
