Fried cabbage is a favorite at Mammaw's house! Bacon is fried until crispy, then sautéed with cabbage and onion in this simple, quick side dish. It's terrific with cornbread.
Ingredients
- vegetable oil: 0.33333 cup
- slices bacon, cut into thirds: 3 piece
- salt: 1 tsp (to taste)
- ground black pepper: 1 tsp (to taste)
- head cabbage, cored and: 1 piece (sliced)
- white onion: 1 piece (chopped)
- pinch white sugar: 1 piece

Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat; add bacon and season with salt and pepper. Cook until bacon is crisp, 5 to 7 minutes.

Add cabbage, onion, and sugar; cook and stir continuously until cabbage and onion are tender, about 5 to 10 minutes.
