This bird bread is an excellent staple to have; when you need a quick treat, defrost a few of these balls. Aside from softening the sweet potato in the microwave, this recipe does not require you to do any cooking at all. It's a relatively simple recipe you can make that will provide you with a big batch of treats that freeze well. The fresh fruits and vegetables are incredibly nutritious for your bird, and the cereal gives the balls a pleasant crunch.

Ingredients

  • sweet potato: 1 piece
  • frozen mixed vegetables: 1 cup (thawed)
  • banana: 1 piece
  • raisins: 0.5 cup
  • apples: 1 cup (diced)
  • ½ cups quick-cooking oatmeal, corn flakes, granola, or similar cereal: 1 piece

  1. Pierce skin of sweet potato several times with a paring knife or skewer. Cook in the microwave on high power until tender, 5 to 9 minutes; turn the potato over halfway through cooking. Allow to cool until cool enough to handle.

  2. Peel potato and place flesh into a large mixing bowl. Add mixed vegetables, banana, raisins, apples, and oatmeal. Mix with an electric mixer on high speed until vegetables have been reduced to tiny pieces and mixture is thoroughly combined. If mixture is too dry, add a little water until soft enough to roll into balls.
