I made this Swiss steak in my crockpot one day, and we loved it! It was a little time-consuming because I sautéed the vegetables and browned the meat first, but it was well worth it. Browning the meat first gives it a better flavor. This is great with mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
- all-purpose flour: 0.25 cup
- salt and pepper: (to taste)
- ½ pounds round steak: 1 piece (cut into small pieces)
- vegetable oil: 3 Tbsp
- stalks celery: 3 piece (chopped)
- onion: 1 piece (chopped)
- carrots: 3 piece (shredded)
- tomatoes with juice: 2 cans (14.5 ounce cans, diced)
- brown sugar: 2 Tbsp (to taste)
- Worcestershire sauce: 1 Tbsp

Mix together flour, salt, and pepper in a shallow bowl. Dredge steak pieces in flour mixture to lightly coat.

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir celery, onion, and carrots in hot oil until tender, about 5 minutes. Add coated steak pieces; cook and stir until lightly browned, about 5 minutes more.

Transfer steak-vegetable mixture to the slow cooker. Stir in tomatoes with juice, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.

Cover and cook on Low until steak is very tender, 8 to 10 hours.
