The warmth of ginger, cloves, and brown sugar and the brightness of orange juice and zest come together to make this family-favorite cranberry sauce. If you can't find fresh cranberries, you can use frozen ones — just simmer them a few minutes longer. Make this ahead of time, and save yourself some stress on the big day!

Ingredients

  • water: 0.75 cup
  • brown sugar: 0.75 cup
  • orange juice: 0.25 cup (freshly squeezed)
  • cinnamon stick: 1 piece
  • fresh ginger: 1 tsp (grated)
  • orange zest: 1 tsp (grated)
  • salt: 0.125 tsp
  • ground cloves: 0.125 tsp
  • ground allspice: 0.125 tsp
  • bag fresh cranberries: 1 piece (12 ounce)

  1. Combine water, brown sugar, orange juice, cinnamon stick, ginger, orange zest, salt, cloves, and allspice in a medium saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until sugar is dissolved, 3 to 5 minutes.

  2. Stir in cranberries and return to a boil over medium heat. Cook until cranberries start to burst and mixture thickens slightly, 8 to 10 minutes; sauce will thicken further upon cooling.

  3. Transfer cranberry sauce to a bowl; remove and discard cinnamon stick. Store in the refrigerator until serving.
